This Deluxe version of Optimus Primal is an entirely redesigned robot, as opposed to the show-accurate Primal released in the BWR-01 Optimus/Megatron Giftset. In gorilla mode, this new Prime demonstrates more exposed metal/circuitry than the original. The arms look a little more prehensile, with armor plates hinged at the wrists to serve as cestus. In robot mode, he looks a little more like the Big Convoy design. His pelt is mingled with exposed armor and circuitry, giving him the overall cybernetic look that became more prevalent in later BW characters. Overall he carries a slight leonine bearing, an impression reinforced by his kingly diadem.
Deluxe Optimus Primal comes equipped with a missile-loaded flying platform, seemingly similar to the one utilized by the Transmetal version Primus. Additionally, he comes with a comic book, a miniature replica of the Axalon and what appears to be his own Cyber Key---the latter of which would presumably link both he and the Deluxe Megatron to the Cybertron continuity in some way. Ostensibly, the Beast Wars aspect of the story remains the same. Optimus Primal, time-displaced, temporary caretaker to a prehistoric Earth, is locked in predatory combat with Predacon leader Megatron.
