Blaster was another one of the early Autobots that stood apart from his Autobot buddies with his non-vehicle design. He was sort of an answer to Soundwave, although the very first version of Blaster had a sealed, non-functional tape deck. Later, they modified him, and his got his own guys, like his anti-Rumble/Frenzy division, Eject and Rewind. In the movie, he saved Perceptor's exhaust pipe by dispatching his own cassette entourage to do battle with Soundwave's guys. Also, in the process, he managed to send the distress signal to Optimus Prime, the one defining move that finally stonewalled a full-scale Decepticon invasion.
He's one of the larger Autobots from that era, and he had good articulation, which wasn't always the case with the Gen 1 guys. As a matter of fact, he pretty much dwarfs Soundwave the way Soundwave dwarfs Brawn. A fun guy, a lighthearted guy, Blaster has an uncomplicated transformation mode, going from his large "boom-box" version to his more impressive robot mode. Bright, contrasting colors. Nice head sculpt, a helmeted head mounted with a curved visor. Additionally, he looked alot like his cartoon version on the show. And best of all, he's got a gigantic gun. Assemble all of his cassettes, and he's the commander of his own regiment.
