The Road Warrior: 1/18 Scale Interceptor Vehicle includes a full array of gear such as holdout weapons, gas cans, a spare tire, and even Max’s dog companion. The Interceptor Vehicle, the Pursuit Special commandeered by Max in Mad Max, is outfitted with a supercharger. The Pursuit Special’s fuel tanks are rigged with an explosive, particularly effective, booby trap. In the Road Warrior, Max has evolved into a mercenary; in return for fuel, he offers to assist the residents of a fortified oil refinery compound against a gang of freaks and degenerates led by the monstrous Lord Humungus.
Speaking via public address system, the Humungus patiently encourages the oil refinery residents to turn over the fuel in their possession. Quoth the Humungus: “Just walk away and your lives will be spared; just walk away.” Max’s counterproposal consists of using an abandoned Mack truck to transport the fuel beyond the wastelands to safety. Under cover of night, Max slips out the compound, returns to the place where he’d spotted the truck, and manages to drive the Mack truck to the oil refinery, smashing through the Humungus’ barricade in the process. Max refuses the invitation to stay with the refinery residents, although once he’s paid in fuel and attempts to leave the compound in his own car, Max is overwhelmed by the Humungus’ men. Max’s car is destroyed, but he’s rescued by the Gyro Captain and returned, battered and delirious, to the oil refinery compound. At that point, now without a vehicle, Max offers to drive the Mack truck to safety.
