The Batmobile is outfitted with myriad weapons and gadgets including Browning machineguns, deployable bombs, ejecting bat-disks, oil slick deluge, a launching grapnel that enables the vehicle to perform inordinately sharp turns, and a voice-activated shield comprised of ceramic fractal armor. During the attempted capture of Boss Grissom’s murderous enforcer, Jack Napier, in the miasmic Axis Chemicals building, Batman inadvertently assists in the creation of Gotham’s first supervillain; Napier, disfigured by his own gunshot ricocheted from Batman’s gauntlet, tumbles into a vat of chemicals to his apparent death. Later, Napier, now the Joker, driven insane by his permanent rictus and bleached skin, murders Grissom and establishes control of Gotham’s organized crime syndicate. Batman succeeds in rescuing Vicki Vale from the Joker’s clutches, transporting her, via Batmobile, to the Batcave, where he reveals a solution to the Joker’s Smilex-tainted hygiene products. Batman later utilizes the Batmobile’s deployable bombs to destroy the Joker’s chemical refinery.
